SUMMARY:Souster and Powell: CoModulation
DESCRIPTION:This co-promotion between the University and The Wallace Collection, ‘Souster and Powell: CoModulation’, presents Andrew Powell – live electronics; Kirsten Powell – sound dispersion; Tony George – tuba; and Bede Williams – trumpet. British composers Andrew Powell and Tim Souster were part of the seminal electronic music group Intermodulation. Tony George (co-Artistic Director of The Wallace Collection) and Bede Williams (Head of Instrumental Studies) perform music by both composers that looks at the natural world in different ways. Powell’s Plasmogeny II (‘the development of an organism from plasma’) develops from the fundamental notes of the trumpet, and Souster’s Heavy Reductions re-creates the opening waters of Das Rheingold with a Wagnerian orchestra of tape-delayed tubas. The concert will include short discussions with a panel of guests chaired by John Wallace.
