SUMMARY:Logos Institute Lecture with Professor Murray Rae
DESCRIPTION:Next Friday, 21 February at the University of St Andrews:  The Logos Institute International Lecture with Professor Murray Rae    ‘“Behold, I am making all things new”: Resurrection and New Creation’  The raising of Jesus from the dead is, I propose, the decisive clue to what is going on in the world. The resurrection confirms, once and for all, that the life of the world is sustained and renewed through the sovereign love of God and will attain its true end in the fullness of life that God intends for his creatures. This realisation of this telos requires, however, that the creation be rescued from the ravages of sin and death and so be given new life. According to the Gospel of John, this is the work of the Father, undertaken by Christ in concert with the Spirit. Following a brief exploration of John’s treatment of this theme, I will then consider how we may be drawn to participate in the drama of new creation, and so share in the eternal life that is the promise of the gospel.     Professor Murray Rae is a Professor of Theology and Ethics at the University of Otago in New Zealand. He received his PhD from King’s College, London and, in addition, to his work on Christian Doctrine and the theological interpretation of Scripture is internationally recognised as one of the world's leading Kierkegaard scholars. He is the author of several monographs including Theology and Architecture: the Art of Place (Waco, TX.: Baylor University Press) which won the won the 2018 Ashton Wylie book award; Christian Theology: The Basics (Routledge); Kierkegaard and Theology (T&T Clark) and History and Hermeneutics (Oxford, Clarendon). In addition, he has edited a further eleven volumes, published around fifty chapters in edited volumes along with numerous articles in leading refereed journals.    21 February 2020, 4:00pm-5:30pm   Parliament Hall, South Street, St Andrews    This event is free of charge and all are welcome.
