SUMMARY:Booker Lecture
DESCRIPTION:This year’s St Andrews Booker Prize novel is The Long Take, by Scottish author Robin Robertson. The Long Take was contentious when it was shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize in 2018 because of its experimentation with form. Part poetry and part prose, the narrative is recounted as a lyrical and sweeping modern day epic that disregards formal conventions of the novel in exhilarating and intelligent ways, with more conservative supporters of the Man Booker Prize suggesting that it should be submitted for poetry prizes instead. Inspired by Hollywood in the early 20th century and following the recovery of a D-Day veteran returned from war, this magnificent work is a moving and compelling account of the traumatising power of violence, and the strength needed to move beyond it. Robin Robertson will be coming to St Andrews to talk about his work and sign copies of the book. https://events.st-andrews.ac.uk/events/booker-lecture-2/
