SUMMARY:St Andrews Journal of International and Language Education (SAJILE)
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the official launch of St Andrews Journal of International and Language Education (SAJILE), an open-access online journal hosted by the International Education and Lifelong Learning Institute (IELLI), collaboratively run by students and academic staff. It aims to support educators in language and international education by publishing work that connects research with teaching practice. The journal focuses on three types of contributions: research of teaching (studies related to teaching topics), research for teaching (research aimed at improving teaching), and research as teaching (integrating research into teaching itself). The event will provide a brief introduction to the SAJILE's mission, its aims and the editorial team. Invited speaker Professor Peter De Costa, of Michigan State University and the University of St Andrews SAJILE International Advisory Board, will present a keynote address on bridging research and practice, building communities of practice, and mentoring early career practitioner researchers. The presentation will be followed by a question and answer session (Q&A). There will also be a number of author presentations highlighting the contents of our first issues: Michela Gronchi, University of St Andrews and Ca' Foscari University of Venice: Making the implicit explicit: a structured learning pathway for academic writing in English medium instruction Cassie Ngo, University of Manchester, and David Hastie, University of Dundee: Teaching ethical GenAI use through student-led discussions in EAP Virginia Parker, University of St Andrews: review of University and You: Strengthening Your Skills and Developing Your Potential by C Wilson and R Wilson (2025) Yumiko Fujita Imanishi, University of St Andrews: Doctoral journeys: beyond the doctorate These presentations will be eight-minute talks with two-minute Q&A sessions from authors featured in the first issues who will be sharing key ideas from their work. Dr Sarah Hopkyns, SAJILE Co-Editor in Chief and CILTER Deputy Centre Director, and Thomas Stringer SAJILE Co-Editor in Chief and Co Lead of CILTER Learner Autonomy Research Hub, will open and close the event with introductions, reflections on the inaugural forum piece, the launch, and announcements about upcoming special issues. Please register in advance on this page. You will receive a confirmation email with joining details, including the MS Teams link, at a later date. https://events.st-andrews.ac.uk/events/st-andrews-journal-of-international-and-language-education-sajile-launch-event/
