SUMMARY:Icons and the Mystery of the Face
DESCRIPTION:The Art as Revelation Project and the St Andrews Encyclopaedia of Theology are pleased to welcome renowned iconographer Aidan Hart to St Andrews to speak about the theology of the icon in a talk entitled 'Icons and the Mystery of the Face: How image and word affirm communion and transformation'. Abstract: Christian tradition affirms that mankind is made in the image of the Holy Trinity. The relationship between persons -- 'the communion of the saints' -- is therefore central to being fully human. This talk explores how icons assist this restoration of face-to-face relationship between human persons and between God and mankind. It also explores the ways in which icons affirm that the human person is called not just to follow Christ but ultimately to be transfigured by Him, made a 'partaker of the divine nature'. This event is free and no registration is needed. Aidan Hart will also be giving a special talk for fellow artists on 1 May at 3pm with limited spaces. Artists can register using the link below. https://events.st-andrews.ac.uk/events/icons-and-the-mystery-of-the-face/
