SUMMARY:Scotch mist in Greenwich: James David Forbes and his astronomical connections
DESCRIPTION:As part of the Special Collections Visiting Scholars talks, come to the Napier Reading Room in Martyrs Kirk to hear Daniel Belteki (University of Kent) talk about his work with the University Library Special Collections materials. Daniel visits St Andrews as part of the Special Collections Visiting Scholars scheme and will carry out research based on the papers of the eminent scientist James David Forbes (1809-1868) who was Principal of the United College of St Salvator and St Leonard at St Andrews from 1859. Daniel’s research will contribute to a number of projects including the ongoing digitisation of the journals of the seventh Astronomer Royal, Sir George Biddell Airy (1801-1892) and his work on the relationship between Forbes and the controversial Astronomer Royal for Scotland, Charles Piazzi Smyth (1819-1900). https://events.st-andrews.ac.uk/events/special-collections-visiting-scholars-talks-scotch-mist-in-greenwich-james-david-forbes-and-his-astronomical-connections/
