In Le Vin herbé, Tristan and Iseult are brought together not by choice, but by fate, and the mistaken sip of a magic love potion. Martin's haunting score carries us on a journey across tumultuous oceans and through forests, beautifully evoking their passion, forbidden love, grief and the inevitability of their tragedy. Sung in English by a cast comprised of the University of St Andrews' finest vocalists, joined by a small orchestra led by Ben Shute, this production of Le Vin herbé pays homage to its roots as a narrative oratorio, with an elegantly lean production, created especially for Byre Opera.
