SUMMARY:Music Talk with Nina Laurie
DESCRIPTION:Nina Laurie draws on archive work and life history interviews in Peru to examine the emergence of spiritual spaces of musical creativity during the Peruvian civil war (1980 -2000). The evangelical church became a target for the Maoist-inspired Shining Path, while at the same time experiencing a revival of Quechua identity through the use of traditional Andean instruments in indigenous music festivals, whilst local and international festivals promoted new Christian music. Gatherings in remote rural areas of Peru heard original compositions and produced artisan recordings to share and learn back in their home churches. https://events.st-andrews.ac.uk/events/music-talk-with-nina-laurie/
