SUMMARY:CRISP online seminar
DESCRIPTION:This eighth online seminar of the Centre for Research into Information, Surveillance and Privacy (CRISP) will welcome Dr Roger Andre Søraa who is Professor in Science and Technology Studies at the Department of Interdisciplinary Studies of Culture at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology. Dr Søraa will present a seminar titled 'AI and diversity: how to mitigate exclusion in sociotechnical practices'. His talk will consider the intersection of AI, diversity and exclusion, focusing on how these technologies can perpetuate discriminatory practices under the guise of neutrality or efficiency. He will illustrate how exclusionary practices manifest in AI systems and explore the implications of this for society. He will also examine strategies to mitigate the biases and to ensure that AI technologies foster inclusivity rather than reinforce inequality. For more details, including how to join the seminar, see the 'More information...' link below. https://events.st-andrews.ac.uk/events/crisp-online-seminar-3/
