SUMMARY:Teaching and learning in an internationalised context: challenges and strategies
DESCRIPTION:This event will be led by Katrien Deroey, a Senior Lecturer in Applied Linguistics and Language Teaching at the multilingual University of Luxembourg.    The event will start at 12.30pm with lunch.    The intended learning outcomes of the session are that participants will be able to:     	explain the key challenges their international students may face in the learning context   	identify some aspects of their teaching that may help or hinder their international students   	formulate some strategies they could use to promote understanding and learning in this context.    After lunch, there will then be a presentation from 1pm to 2pm in which Katrien will discuss how the internationalisation of higher education has led to a variety of contexts in which native and non-native speakers of English teach students with different cultural, educational and linguistic backgrounds through the medium of English. She will also survey the key issues associated with ‘English Medium Instruction’ for lecturers and students. In addition, linguistic and pedagogical strategies that can facilitate teaching and learning in these contexts will also be looked at.    The event will finish with an interactive session from 2pm to 3pm in which participants are invited to share their experiences with and strategies for teaching and learning in an internationalised context.
