SUMMARY:Internal Security and Chinese Grand Strategy
DESCRIPTION:Since 2014, Xi Jinping has made security a focal point of his approach to governing China. But how do Xi Jinping and top leaders of the Chinese Communist Party think about security, and how should we understand the security policies -- both internal and external -- that the party-state has pursued during Xi's tenure? This talk provides an overview of how internal security concerns shape Chinese grand strategy, including both domestic security and foreign policy. Sheena Chestnut Greitens is associate professor at the University of Texas-Austin, where she directs the university's Asia Policy Program. This year, she is on leave to serve as Visiting Associate Professor of Research in Indo-Pacific Security at the U.S. Army War College. Her work focuses on security and authoritarian politics, particularly in East Asia. https://events.st-andrews.ac.uk/events/internal-security-and-chinese-grand-strategy/
