SUMMARY:Online violent extremism content in Northern-Africa: a case study
DESCRIPTION: Join The Handa Centre for the Study of Terrorism and Political Violence for its first public lecture of the Candlemas semester. Dr Guillaume Soto-Mayor is Head of Operations for the security-defense department of the CNAM (Conservatoire national des arts et métiers), a lecturer in well-known educational institutions (Sciences Po Paris and Strasbourg) and an independent consultant. Since graduating with high distinction from the Foreign Service Programme at the University of Oxford and Sciences Po Strasbourg, his academic and professional life has focused on international security issues and the necessity of diplomatic action to resolve it. Through his field research and analysis on criminal and terrorist networks conducted in West, Central and North Africa, Dr Soto-Mayor has been confronted with the transversal reality of security threats which fuelled his desired to understand these phenomenon thoroughly, from the roots of their expansion and success, and notably of their radical discourse.
