SUMMARY:Interactive stratospheric aerosol modelling of volcanic eruptions and impact on climate
DESCRIPTION:Explosive volcanic eruptions are important drivers of climate variability. Simulating volcanic eruptions is vital for understanding their impacts on past climate and how they may affect the climate in the future, as well as providing a key benchmark for the evaluation of climate models. How we include explosive volcanic eruptions in climate models has evolved considerably over the last two decades, with interactive aerosol modelling allowing eruptions to be simulated with greater realism, starting from an initial emission of sulfur dioxide.
