SUMMARY:The Moderhede of Kynd Love: Conception, Labour and Delivery in the Theology of Julian of Norwich
DESCRIPTION:In this English Research Seminar, Professor Vincent Gillespie (Lady Margaret Hall, University of Oxford) will argue that in her Showings (1373 to 1413) Julian of Norwich uses the language, imagery and close observation of pregnancy and childbirth to construct an unusual imaginative matrix in which she comes to understand not only the sacrificial delivery achieved by Christ’s incarnation, passion and death, but also to explore the painfully laborious process by which she herself comes to be delivered of her written text. Venue: Lawson Lecture Room, Kennedy Hall https://events.st-andrews.ac.uk/events/english-research-seminar-4/
LOCATION:Kennedy Hall, The Scores, St Andrews, Fife, Scotland, KY16 9BQ
