SUMMARY:Saints Talk: Dr Lucy Donaldson
DESCRIPTION:We are delighted to welcome you to the next instalment in our Saints Talk series from Dr Lucy Donaldson, on 'Feeling and Filmmaking'. Films are made by a vast network of personnel whose work is crucial in shaping our emotional and visceral responses to the world onscreen. Yet, the labour of those 'below-the-line' (personnel associated with craft and technical work) is frequently neglected in discussions of the creative achievement of film or its sensory impact. In this talk Dr Donaldson will highlight the significance of contributions made by those responsible for the audio-visual design of film, drawing on interview and archival material in order to demonstrate the detailed attention and care taken by production designers, costume designers and sound designers in creating the material worlds of film. Looking across the work of those responsible for design is an opportunity to consider how films are crafted to engage us in tactile and textural worlds, to make us feel. If you have missed any of the past Saints Talk Lectures, or can't make the live stream of this one, you can watch them again on our YouTube channel. We hope to see you on Tuesday. https://events.st-andrews.ac.uk/events/saints-talk-dr-lucy-donaldson/
