SUMMARY:The Gifford Lectures 2021-2022: Lecture 1
DESCRIPTION:The Gifford Lectures (2021 to 2022) will be delivered by Oliver O'Donovan, Professor Emeritus of Christian Ethics and Practical Theology at the University of Edinburgh and Honorary Professor at St Andrews.    This year, the lecture series will take place online via Microsoft Teams. Please note that a Teams link will be circulated later in October to registered attendees.    The lecture series, entitled 'The Disappearance of Ethics', will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 5.30pm starting on Tuesday 26 October 2021 and ending on Thursday 11 November 2021:     	26 October The missing object: the good   	28 October The missing frontier: time   	2 November The missing agent: the person   	4 November Creation and the recovery of reality   	9 November Law and the recovery of history   	11 November Spirit and the recovery of agency    Attendance is free and open to the public. The prestigious Gifford Lectureships were established by Adam Lord Gifford (1820 to 1887), a senator of the College of Justice in Scotland. The purpose of Lord Gifford's bequest to the universities of Edinburgh, Glasgow, St Andrews and Aberdeen was to sponsor lectures to "promote and diffuse the study of Natural Theology in the widest sense of the term - in other words, the knowledge of God".
