DESCRIPTION:The Centre for Screen Cultures is partnering with Berwick Film and Media Arts Festival, the UK's Festival for New Cinema and Artists' Moving Image, to co-host the world premiere of Nguyễn Trinh Thí's How to Improve the World (2021) as part of a special programme focusing on her Landscape Series (also supported by CREAM at the University of Westminster).    'Nguyễn Trinh Thí is one of Vietnam's leading contemporary artists. Her moving image work engages with the ways in which memory, history and representation are part of broader structures of power, the legacies of colonialism and war, and the erasure of indigenous Vietnamese cultures.    Presented in this artist focus are four moving image works from the Landscape series: Landscape series 1# (2013), Letters from Panduranga (2015), Fifth Cinema (2018) and How to Improve the World (2021). [Christina Demetriou, BFMAF]    A conversation between Nguyễn Trinh Thí and Dr Philippa Lovatt (Co-Director for the Centre for Screen Cultures) about the Landscape Series will be broadcast on the BFMAF website on Saturday 18 September at 12pm (BST).    This is the first of a series of events for the Centre for Screen Cultures in 2021-2022 on the theme for this year of 'Sound and Environment' (further events to be announced soon).    BFMAF festival passes are available on their website, with prices starting from £10 for online access (or £50 in person) to the entire festival, which also includes retrospectives on the films of Anti-Archive from Cambodia, Sri Lankan filmmaker and visual artist Rajee Samarasinghe, SPS Community Media and much more.
