SUMMARY:Fearless Improvisation in 17th and 18th century styles
DESCRIPTION:Tutors: Richard Michael (piano/organ): Honorary Professor of Jazz Piano, University of St Andrews  Hilary Michael (violin): Dunedin Consort, OAE, Academy of Ancient Music, Performance Practice tutor, St Mary's Music School  This friendly virtual course is open to all instrumentalists no matter your ability or prior experience. During the course you will explore the building blocks of improvisation in the baroque era including the four most common chords in Western Harmony, their associated scales and basic embellishments. The course will use thematic material by Monteverdi, Vivaldi and Telemann and study material will be sent out in advance. If there is any time left, some basic fugal exposition may also be explored.     The course will consist of two 75-minute sessions (1000-1115, 1400-1515) and will be delivered online.
