SUMMARY:The Struther Arnott Lecture Series: 2021 Seminar
DESCRIPTION:The Struther Arnott Lecture Series, in memory of former Principal, Professor Struther Arnott, invites some of the best scientists working on infectious diseases from around the world to present their recent findings to a wide audience of interested students, staff and alumni. The Biomedical Sciences Research Complex (BSRC) is a truly interdisciplinary research centre, one of the first to embrace and narrow the void spanning biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, computing and medicine. Its success is due to the scientists conducting world-class research utilising and developing cutting edge technologies and methodologies focusing on the broad theme of infection and diseases. This event will take place on the Hopin virtual event platform. Please sign up to the event using the link below. Titles of talks and academics delivering: Polly Roy OBE FMedSci PhD Professor of Virology, London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine 'The dynamics and structural basis of cell entry and genome replication in a complex double-stranded RNA virus' Professor Anabela Cordeiro da Silva MsC PhD Parasite Disease Group coordinator 'Rational development of anti-Leishmania vaccines for humans focusing on both the vector and the parasite' Professor Bob Hancock OC OBC FRSC Director, Centre for Microbial Diseases and Immunity Research, Vancouver, Canada 'Systems Immunology: using omics data to reveal novel mechanisms, biomarkers and interventions in human inflammatory/infectious diseases Professor Blake Wiedenheft Department of Microbiology and Immunology Montana State University, MT, USA 'Mechanisms of CRISPR-mediated immunity and applications beyond editing" https://events.st-andrews.ac.uk/events/the-struther-arnott-sponsored-bsrc-seminar-series-2021/
