On behalf of the Entrepreneurial Education Working Group, we invite you to this one-day online conference. At the University of St Andrews, we are seeking to embed the enterprising mindset and skills in the curriculum. To this end, this event is an effort to bring together a group of like-minded people from across the sector with experience and ideas to share in an informal brief presentation and discussion format. Format: Two presentations of ten minutes each presented in sequence followed by 30 minutes discussion in every session. Programme 9.15am to 9.20am Welcome and introduction to the conference Session 1 9.20am to 9.30am: Emmanuel Godin (University of Portsmouth) Title: Embedding enterprise in the curriculum: fostering external partners’ engagement The project aims to improve external partners' engagement within the curriculum, with the view to enhance student enterprise in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (FHSS). The project rests on three pillars: Educational innovation: to enable students to work with external partners on assessed projects, but also to enable external partners to co-design assessment and marking criteria, provide feedback or/and contribute the design and delivery of specific modules. Employer forum (EF): to identify why and how external partners currently engage with EF for educational reasons. To reconfigure the role and remit of the current EF with the view to maintaining, building and developing credible relationships with external partners through educational innovation. Staff professional development: to develop CPD workshops for FHSS staff, bridging the gap between authentic assessments, enterprise and external partners’ engagement. The presentation will be illustrated with references to specific modules, such as 'Literary Prizes' and 'Policy and politics in action'. 9.30am to 9.40am: Andre Mostert (University of Sussex) Title: Embedding Social Science Research Entrepreneurship for PhDs – The ASPECT International Programme The session will allow the team at Sussex to share their experience with supporting and encouraging PhD and senior students to explore opportunities for applied research commercial activities across the social sciences. 9.40am to 10.10am: Discussion 10.10am to 10.15am: Break Session 2 10.15am to 10.25am: Helen Reed, Angela Vesey (Nottingham Trent University) Title: Students using Community Collaboration for Enterprise in Social Sciences (SUCCESS) We will share an NTU School of Social Sciences initiative to encouraging an enterprising mindset across a range of disciplines in Social Sciences. 10.25am to 10.35am: Anna Sexton (Liverpool John Moores) Title: Creative and collaborative approaches to enterprise in the curriculum This session will demonstrate how using key entrepreneurial mindset and start up development tools enables students and graduates to develop their personal, leadership and professional skills, linked to self-reflection and the development of a compelling future plan. 10.35am to 11.05am: Discussion 11.05am to 11.10am: Break Session 3 11.10am to 11.20am: Lauren Davies (University of the West of England) Title: Experiences with the Team Entrepreneurship programme at UWE Bristol The presentation will focus on the innovative approach to enterprise and entrepreneurship education adopted within the Team Entrepreneurship programme at UWE Bristol. Based on the pioneering Team Academy model, which originated in Finland, the programme is a team-based degree programme which emphasises experiential, self-managed learning. Learning is centred around the Team Company, which operates as a learning organisation for the students (known as 'Team Entrepreneurs') for the duration of their studies. The presentation will focus on the benefits and challenges of this approach to entrepreneurship education within the curriculum as well as exploring some of the more recent developments of the programme, including the implementation of a entrepreneurial competency framework. 11.20am to 11.30am: Daniel Marshall, Ester Ragonese, Steven Altham (Liverpool John Moores) Title: Enterprising Students: A Values-Driven, Competency-based Framework for Embedding Enterprise in the HE Curriculum Higher Education needs to equip students with enterprise skills alongside the technical and subject knowledge they receive, to enable successful transition to the workplace. Adapting the Advance HE Enterprise and Entrepreneurship Education Framework, we are developing a values-driven, competency-based framework to underpin an enterprise programme for Liverpool John Moores University students. The development of enterprise skills is integral to the programme to empower students to recognise and reflect on core competencies they encounter in HE. This session will present the framework and emerging themes from an ongoing pilot study with students. 11.30am to 12 noon: Discussion 12 noon to 12.05pm: Break Session 4 12.05pm to 12.15om: Charles Wiffen (University of Bath Spa) Title: Embedding Creative Enterprise within the Curriculum Bath Spa University has decided to embed creative enterprise within the undergraduate and postgraduate taught curriculum through the adoption of relevant learning outcomes at all levels. The University aims to be sensitive to the needs and conventions of its various disciplines whilst simultaneously providing a distinctive approach and is currently developing a toolkit for all staff. This short presentation reflects on some of the challenges and opportunities within this approach. 12.15pm to 12.25pm: Sarah Underwood, Richard Tunstall (University of Leeds) Title: Embedding Enterprise Across the Curriculum; Enterprise at the University of Leeds Reflections on the highs and lows of embedding enterprise in the curriculum over the last 15 years, including discussion of the current structure and types of educational offer now available to students and what has been needed to get these opportunities in place.
