Vernacular Registers of Gender and Sexuality in Colonial India Annual Lecture in the History of Women, Gender and Sexuality

The School of History's fifth Annual Lecture in the History of Women, Gender and Sexuality, taking place on International Women's Day, will be delivered by Professor Charu Gupta from the University of Delhi.

Professor Gupta has written widely on the histories of gender, sexuality, women and minorities, and caste in modern India. Her publications include Sexuality, Obscenity, Community: Women, Muslims and the Hindu Public in Colonial India (Permanent Black, 2001 and Palgrave, 2002); The Gender of Caste: Representing Dalits in Print (Permanent Black & University of Washington Press, 2016; paperback 2017) and Contested Coastlines: Fisherfolk, Nations and Borders in South Asia (Routledge, 2008, 2018).

Dr Gupta's lecture will be followed by a Q&A discussion, chaired by Dr Akhila Yechury.
