The Kurdistan Regional Government in Russian Foreign Policy MECACS Seminar Series Event with Dr Karzan Omar Ali (University of Sulaimani, Kurdistan Region, Iraq)

Dr Karzan Omar Ali is a lecturer at the University of Sulaimani in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. He received his Master's degree in political sciences from Donetsk National University (2007-2009), and a PhD in Political Sciences (2020-2024) from the University of Sulaimani. Dr Ali also worked for the Kurdistan Conflict and Crisis Research Center (KCCRC). His primary interests are in Kurdish politics, including power-sharing among political parties, good governance, human rights, and freedom of speech, transparency, the rule of law as well as the foreign relations of the KRI.

The Kurdistan Region of Iraqi KRI is a constitutional federal entity within the framework of Iraq. Since 2003, its foreign relations with the international community have expanded. Russia has been one of the countries with which the regional government has established its relations. In this seminar, Dr Karzan Omar Ali will analyse the position of the KRI within Russia's foreign policy.
