The Children Act is a 2017 drama film directed by Richard Eyre, produced by Duncan Kenworthy, and written by Ian McEwan, based on his 2014 novel of the same name. It stars Emma Thompson, Stanley Tucci and Fionn Whitehead.
The title is a reference to the Children Act 1989, a UK Act of Parliament and the film has been compared to Charles Dickens’ Bleak House with its similar settings and opening lines.
The Children Act is an engaging book and film which explores interesting aspects of medical jurisprudence and ethics. Students, staff and members of the public are invited to attend this screening, hosted by the School of Medicine.
The screening is free but booking is required via the Byre Theatre website. We will have a brief introduction and time for an open mic discussion after the film.
