Rectorial Installation for Dr Leyla Hussein

Students and staff are welcome to attend a ceremony to install Dr Leyla Hussein as Rector in the Buchanan Lecture Theatre.

Leyla, a psychotherapist, campaigner and global leader on gender rights, was appointed Rector in November 2020 for an initial three-year term.

The Rector, who is elected by the student body, presides at meetings of the University Court, the highest governing body of the University, and plays an informal pastoral role for students, engaging with their issues and making a valuable contribution to the student experience, as well as to the life and reputation of the whole University.

Tickets to the ceremony are free, but must be booked in advance via the Byre Theatre website and e-tickets must be shown at the door to the Buchanan. Doors will open at 1.30pm and close at 2.15pm.

After the ceremony, attendees are welcome to join the Principal, Rector and academic procession to walk to the Students' Union where a Reception will be held offering free refreshments.
