'How we see ourselves and others is not set in stone but is malleable. Perceived group memberships of the self and of others have important consequences for intergroup helping -- they inform when compassionate responses are triggered. This talk investigates social psychological mechanisms of group belonging and intergroup helping, drawing on data collected in a range of different national contexts.'
