Phishing: don't take the (re)bait

The first Cyber Scotland Week (in April 2019), saw over 30 events taking place in Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Inverness, Midlothian, Orkney, Perth, St Andrews, Stirling and Tweedbank. Our event was held in School II.

There were also social media campaigns by a wide range of stakeholders across the public, private and third sectors. The programme received considerable media attention, featuring in national newspapers such as the Herald and the Scotsman. It was also featured on BBC Scotland News and on BBC Radio Scotland.

For the second year, Cyber Scotland Week draws together events across Scotland to showcase the innovation taking place across the sector, while raising awareness of good cyber resilience practice.

As part of this Scottish Government initiative, we shall be hosting a lunchtime talk, open to all staff and students. The event will focus on the recent HMRC scam which impacted thousands of UK students.
During the session, the IT Security Team will:
* explore the email and the classic tell-tale signs of phishing
* discuss the impact throughout UK universities
* facilitate a short quiz so the audience can put their skills to the test
* provide advice on how we can stay cyber safe in St Andrews.
This session is open to staff and students from the University of St Andrews.
