Lunchtime concert: Richard Michael- The History of Jazz Piano, Part 3 £3, free to all Music Centre Members

In Part 3 of The History of Jazz piano, Richard will show how the reaction against the frenzy of be-bop led to the ‘Cool' school and how the seminal recordings of Miles Davis (who, with Bill Evans, developed ‘modal jazz') and Dave Brubeck (Take 5) developed a more melodic approach to improvisation, less reliant on chords and more on scales and space.

Again, Richard will demonstrate these styles on any tunes suggested by the audience, and he will pay tribute to another ‘one-off', Oscar Peterson.
