It Stops Here --- An evening with Indigenous Land Defender, Rueben George (Tsleil-Waututh Nation) - Free
Rueben George (Tsleil-Waututh First Nation) is a prominent Indigenous land defender and Sun Dance Chief who spent much of the last decade fighting the Trans Mountain Pipeline, which transports crude bitumen through his nation's territory (where Vancouver, BC, Canada is today).
Rueben is author of the national best-selling book It Stops Here: Standing up for Our Lands, Our Waters, and Our People (co-authored with Michael Simpson, Senior Lecturer in the School of Geography and SD at St Andrews).
Join us for an evening of discussion on the themes of the sacred connection of the Tsleil-Waututh people to their lands and waters, and how they are drawing on their culture to heal and standing up to the ongoing colonization of their people by the state and extractive industries.
Following a presentation by Rueben, commentaries on the book will be presented by Dr. Jessica Hope (School of Geography & SD) and Dr. Ariadne Collins (School of IR).
