International perspectives on innovation in addiction medicine

This public lecture launches a three-day programme of activities exploring how innovation can transform addiction medicine. It will feature keynote presentations from international experts who will highlight how ecosystems, entrepreneurship and emerging technologies such as neuroscience and AI can accelerate progress from discovery to real-world impact.

Dr Supriya Munshaw of Johns Hopkins Carey Business School will present on creating value in addiction medicine, focusing on ecosystems, entrepreneurship and the journey from discovery to impact. She will examine how universities can work with business schools, health systems and investors to build sustainable and equitable pathways for innovation.

Dr Hamed Ekhtiari of the University of Minnesota will present on bridging the gap between global innovation opportunities and local needs in the era of neuroscience and AI. His lecture will explore how global insights and emerging technologies can be applied in context-sensitive ways to address urgent needs in prevention, diagnosis, treatment and recovery.

The event will consider how ecosystems of universities, health systems, investors and communities can accelerate innovation in addiction medicine. It will examine why entrepreneurship and business education are critical to empowering researchers. It will also highlight the importance of approaches that are globally informed yet locally grounded, and outline pathways for co-creating scalable and equitable solutions that can be implemented across diverse contexts.
