In conversation: contemporary art and the legacies of empire

Join us for a conversation exploring how contemporary art in Scotland can engage with the legacies of colonialism and empire. Bringing together artists, researchers and cultural practitioners, the discussion will consider how artists navigate Scotland's complex relationship with empire, and how contemporary creative practice can challenge, uncover and reframe histories that continue to shape the present.

This event is part of the programme accompanying Divine Sky by Sekai Machache, on display at the Wardlaw Museum from Monday 12 October 2026 to Sunday 9 May 2027. Across the exhibition period, the programme will explore many aspects of Machache's artistic practice, from her creative processes and use of materials to the themes and concepts that shape her work. The programme includes workshops, activity days, panel discussions and special highlight events, offering opportunities to explore, make, discuss and experience the ideas within Divine Sky.
