Polychronic Macbeth

In this paper, I examine the competing temporalities of Shakespeare’s Macbeth, and use them as a way in which to make better sense of i) Macbeth’s struggles to master his fate; ii) the play’s engagement with the political, philosophical, and historical ideologies that underpinned the Jacobean settlement; iii) Shakespeare’s determination to write beyond the registers of historical temporality
